Daily Log: Lift Up Your Hands

Lift up you hands
The picture was taken last January 03, 2015 at Sabang Beach, Baler, Aurora

Life is not all that bad, my friend, hmmm

If you believe in yourself

If you believe there's Someone

Who walks through life without you
You'll never be alone
Just learn to reach out,
And open your heart
Lift up your hands to God,
And He'll show you the way.

And He said, "Cast your burdens upon Me

Those who are heavily laden,

Come to Me, all of you who are tired

Of carrying heavy loads,
For the yoke I will give you is easy
And My burden is light,
Come to Me and I will give you rest."

When you feel the world

Is tumblin' down on you,

And you have no one

That you can hold on to,
Just face the rising sun
And you'll see hope,
And there's no need to run
Lift up your hands to God,
And He'll make you feel all right.

And He said, "Cast your burdens upon Me

Those who are heavily laden,

Come to Me, all of you who are tired

Of carrying heavy loads,
For the yoke I will give you is easy
And My burden is light,
Come to Me and I will give you rest."

Lift Up Your Hands was composed by Cecile Azarcon and popularized by Basil Valdez in 1985. It was an instant hit and became “the song” for everyone who is suffering. Singing the song or just listening to it had a healing effect…emotionally…spiritually. Speaking through experience…been there…done that…but mostly listening (the singing I kept to myself). The song also became a favorite in church services and spiritual retreats. It gained a new life and another level of popularity when it was sung and released by Gary Valenciano through his album Pure Heart in January 1, 2005.

Why the sudden interest in the song?

It was part of the homily during the 10:30am mass at Our Lady of Pillar, Pilar Village, Las Pinas City. The priest invited all of us to sing it with him. And after the singing, he highlighted “4 Lessons of of the Song” which are:
  1. There’s someone who walks through life with you.
  2. Open your heart to HIm.
  3. Cast your burden upon Him.
  4. Learn to reach out.
